Exfoliate For a Brighter Complexion!
Skin is continuously regenerating itself. The dermis sends skin cells to the epidermis, where skin cells die. The dead skin cells are then sloughed off. As we get older, our cell turnover rate decreases. Instead of our dead skin cells sloughing off, they accumulate. The build-up often leads to dull, dry skin. This is where exfoliation comes in. Exfoliators help the aging process slow down. By manually exfoliating dead skin cells, you reveal healthy, youthful-looking skin.
Using an exfoliator is an important part of the skincare routine. Exfoliating the skin gently removes excess dead skin cells, revealing smoother, more radiant skin. So forget about dull skin; exfoliating can give you a fresh, new complexion and improve dull-looking skin. As a result, your skin will look bright and beautiful even after one use. Exfoliating also refreshes the skin for a smooth surface, allowing makeup application simple and even. There are many different ways to exfoliate the skin, and any one of them will work to improve the look and feel of your complexion.
What Do They Look Like?
Exfoliators come in many different types from beads made from jojoba to seeds from walnuts. A common form of exfoliator is either salt or sugar scrubs. Any of these ingredients help to slough off dead skin, revealing a brighter, more luminous complexion. Further, exfoliating helps keep the skin looking fantastic.
If your skin is dry and flaky, an exfoliator will make a great addition to your skincare routine. Exfoliators help remove flaky skin while deeply nourishing and hydrating the skin to keep it looking soft and hydrated. In addition, exfoliators help contribute to the fight against signs of aging in the skin. By smoothing out the skin and sloughing off dry, dead skin cells, exfoliators can reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles on the face.
Exfoliators have been used for centuries. Cleopatra often used milk to gently exfoliate the face and body. Milk contains lactic acid, a great ingredient to help remove skin build-up without being too harsh.
Introducing an exfoliator to your skincare routine won’t disappoint. With so many different types, there is one for everyone. Every skin type can benefit from the use of an exfoliator. Your skin will both look and feel softer. The benefits exfoliating your skin can provide are numerous.
Mechanical Exfoliators
You can get a microdermabrasion treatment done at a spa. Usually, you buy a package and go for six or more sessions. Microdermabrasion costs about $100 per treatment. It is excellent for acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles. However, don't use it on sensitive skin. After the session, you may appear red for some time.
Manual scrubs should only be one to three times a week. Massage in an upward circular motion, then rinse well with lukewarm water.
Jojoba beads are very gentle. In fact, you can use them in place of your every-day cleanser . Jojoba beads can be used on sensitive skin. For sensitive skin, try jojoba beads on a small patch of skin before using on your entire face. Check out our gentle exfoliating cleansers.
Salt is an excellent scrub for oily skin. Just add a teaspoon to your regular cleanser.
Sugar is a perfect scrub for normal to dry skin. Add a small amount to your cleanser and scrub away!
Baking soda is slightly more abrasive than jojoba, salt, or sugar. In fact, it is ideal for those with flaky skin or trying to get rid of acne scars. Just add a small amount into your cleanser and scrub. Your skin will feel clean and refreshed. Don't use Baking soda on sensitive skin.
Chemical Exfoliators
Three types of chemical exfoliators exist: Chemical Peels, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, and Enzymes.
You can get a Chemical Peels in a dermatologist office, though they tend to cost $100 and up. Most peels have downtime and may take your skin anywhere from 3 to 10 days to heal.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids are fruit acids such as Glycolic, Malic, Tartaric, or Lactic Acid. In addition, Skin Perfection carries Cleansers and Toners with Alpha Hydroxy Fruit Acids.
Enzymes are the gentlest of any exfoliators. Papaya and Pineapple are the two mainly used. At Skin Perfection, our moisturizers contain Papaya and Pineapple for daily exfoliation.
